iCare MAIA
Confocal microperimeter that maps macular sensitivity, analyzes fixation, and images the retina in one exam, for detecting and monitoring macular disease.
Overview
MAIA measures what standard perimetry cannot: point-by-point light sensitivity across the macula, corrected in real time by a 25 Hz retinal tracker, plus the stability and location of the patient's preferred retinal locus. The current generation adds 60 degree TrueColor and confocal infrared imaging, so structural and functional findings sit in the same report. iCare positions it for detecting and monitoring macular diseases, including age-related macular degeneration, evaluating treatment efficacy, and assessing macular function before surgery.

MAIA or COMPASS?
They share tracking and confocal imaging DNA but answer different clinical questions. COMPASS is a standard automated perimeter: 24-2, 30-2, and 10-2 fields, the glaucoma workhorse. MAIA is a microperimeter: macular sensitivity mapping and fixation analysis for macular disease. Practices managing both glaucoma and retina sometimes run the pair.
