Overview
The VX 40 is an automated lensmeter built on Visionix wavefront technology. Instead of reading power at a handful of points the way a conventional lensmeter does, it analyzes the lens across its surface and presents the result as a topographic map of power ranges. That is the difference that matters for progressive and freeform lenses, where a point reading tells you very little about what the patient is actually looking through. A complete analysis takes about 30 seconds at the push of a button.

How the automated workflow runs
The operator places the frame in the holder and starts the measurement. From there the analysis and measurement are automatic, including moving between the left and right lens, so there is no repositioning step and no operator judgement about where to take the reading. The practical effect is that verification produces the same result regardless of who ran it, which is what makes it delegable.
Why the map matters on progressives
A progressive lens changes power continuously down the corridor. A conventional lensmeter samples points, so two lenses that read identically at distance and near can behave very differently for the patient. Mapping power across the surface shows the corridor and the peripheral zones, which is what you need when you are investigating a non-adapt or checking whether a lab delivered the design you ordered.
VX 40 or VX 40 Pro?
Visionix also offers the VX 40 Pro, previously marketed as the VX 40 Couture. The VX 40 analyzes a lens and shows you what it is doing across the surface. The VX 40 Pro verifies a finished job against the prescription data and connects to a Briot Couture or WECO E7 edger for automated final inspection. If you are comparing quotes or older literature, confirm which model and which name is being referenced before comparing prices.
